HostCom™ protocol converter is an external interface that supports all types of distributed printing from IBM mainframe and AS/400 systems to nashuatec laser printers and MFPs. For PCL printers, the IPDS option handles both AFP/IPDS and SCS data streams.
How it works
The HostCom interface provides direct S/370-390 Coax, IBM AS/400 Twinax connection and an additional parallel PC connection without affecting the printer's normal operation. The most flexible solution for direct connection of industry standard page-and line printers to IBM systems using the IBM proprietary 3270 Coax or 5250 Twinax connections.
Easy installation is provided by automatic configuration of key printer functions and local configuration using a Windows configuration tool. Remote configuration and firmware download from IBM systems provide an efficient method of managing large, distributed printer installations at a minimal cost.

The advanced SCS features include barcode generation, font and paper tray selection as well as support for multiple transparent formats. For PCL printers the IPDS option for HostCom™ will handle both AFP/IPDS and SCS data streams.
The IPDS feature supports all AFP/IPDS functions, including Downloaded Fonts, Graphics, Images, Duplex, Color and DBCS fonts. Low resolution IPDS printing resources are automatically scaled to 300 dpi using a high quality algorithm.
